WEEKEND BREAKFAST BLOGGING (WBB). This month, the WBB event from Saffron Trail is being guest hosted by Aparna at My Diverse Kitchen and the theme for September is "Grains in my Breakfast". Send in a breakfast dish featuring one or more grains (in any form) as the main ingredient on or before the 30th of September. For further details, read this!
WEEKLY - WHISK WEDNESDAYS. Join us as we work our way through a cooking school curriculum one class at a time, from apple pie to zabaglione and everything in-between. Follow along using the cookbook Le Cordon Bleu at Home as the guide. Each Wednesday, we'll post what we've been working on for the "class". All the details are here.
WEEKLY - BOOKMARKED RECIPES. Anyone from anywhere can blog about a recipe they had bookmarked from a cook book, food magazine, food blog, food website, from TV etc, make it and submit it to a weekly roundup every Monday. More details found on Ruth's Kitchen Experiments.
WEEKLY - MADE IN AMERICA/LA BUONA CUCINA AMERICANA. Every week one of our circle of expatriate bloggers will post a recipe for old fashioned American food in both English and Italian, in both US measurements and metric. Anyone who can do this is welcome to join up! All the details are here.
WEEKLY - ROOT SOURCE CHALLENGE - From cookthink.com - Every week we propose a new ingredient for our root source newsletter, and make a call out for the best recipes using that ingredient. ONGOING - ADOPT A BLOGGER #2 is under way! After the instant success of Adopt a Blogger #1, we've decided to do it again! We are accepting 25 newbie food bloggers (have blogged for 1 year or less) and 25 Veteran bloggers (1 year or more) to go through the adoption process. Newbies will be matched up with a Veteran bloggers and will be mentored for a 3 month period. More information can be found on the Dine & Dish blog here.
ONGOING - World Bread Day - After Hours Party. For those that missed out on the recent 113-entry roundup for World Bread Day, this is your chance to join in the fun. Complete details can be found here.
SEMIMONTHLY - GROW YOUR OWN is a twice-a-month blogging event that celebrates the foods we grow or raise ourselves and the dishes we make using our homegrown products. Make a dish that uses at least one item from your very own garden or farm and post about it. Your garden doesn't have to be big. Container gardens are welcome! If you hunted or foraged, those items are also eligible. You can also use something that was given to you, but the giver must have personally grown or raised the item. If you paid for it, then it doesn't count. Anything edible that you have grown or raised qualifies, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, sprouts, edible flowers, nuts, grains, legumes, dairy products, eggs, livestock, and anything else I might have forgotten. Produce from both indoor and outdoor gardens are welcome! Different regions will have different things available, so feel free to feature things unique to your area. (Rambutan trees, anyone?) You now have two opportunities to participate each month! Posts are due on the 15th and the 30th of each month and the round-ups will be posted a few days later. Check out the full details here.

MONTHLY - NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 20TH - NO CROUTONS REQUIRED. The monthly soup and salad challenge hosted by Holler of Tinned Tomatoes and Lisa of Lisa's Kitchen. This month I would like you to make a soup or salad and add some fruit. Your soup or salad could be a starter, main course or a dessert. I have added dessert as a suggestion because I love fruit salad and a cold fruit soup would be a gorgeous end to a meal, don't you think? The winner will be awarded a gorgeous badge for their blog! NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 20th - NOVEL FOOD #5. The light has changed in my corner of the world, indicating that summer is giving way to fall. In other places, winter is on its way out, and spring is welcomed with joy. The approaching official change of the season is marked, once again, by the announcement of a new edition of Novel Food, the culinary/literary event that Lisa of Champaign Taste and I co-launched a few seasons ago. Once again (for the 5th time, to be precise), we are looking to find culinary inspiration in literary works. If you are new to the event, and you are wondering what it is about, the split roundup of the previous edition should answer your question: Lisa's portion is here and mine is here. I will make this announcement short and just lay out the simple rules for participating in Novel Food #5:

NEW!!! NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30TH - O FOODS FOR OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH CONTEST. Hosted by Michelle of Bleeding Espresso, Sara of Ms Adventures in Italy, and Jenn of The Leftover Queen, this event and contest seeks to raise awareness and money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund through recipes for "O Foods," foods that start or end with "O" such as oatmeal, orange, okra, octopus, olive, onion, tomato and potato. October 10 is World Egg Day and Abby from Eat the Right Stuff is encouraging food bloggers to share recipes which show just how versatile and delicious eggs are. NEW!!! NOW UNTIL OCTOBER 5TH - BRTISH FOOD FORTNIGHT CHALLENGE. To celebrate British Food Fortnight, Antonia from Food, Glorious Food! is challenging you to create your best typically British dishes, using British (or locally-sourced) produce. This celebration of the food that puts the 'Great' into Great Britain runs until October 5th when Antonia will round-up the entries and award a prize to one lucky participant. NEW!!! NOW UNTIL OCTOBER 15th - HERB MANIA. A monthly event started by Dee and this month its guest hosted at Siri's Corner. Its an event which celebrates the goodness of our dear herbs and challenges us to use them beyond just garnishing. This month the herb chosen is Coriander/Cilantro -[in any form]. ANNUAL - EAT LIKE A PIRATE DAY. September 19th is the first annual Eat Like a Pirate Day! If you are going to talk like a pirate, you should eat like one too! - Prepare a dish of your choosing that has a connection to a published literary work (novel, novella, short story, memoir, bio).
- Publish a post about it on your blog by Saturday September 20, 2008, 9 am (Pacific Time), referencing the Novel Food event. If you wish, you can include the Novel Food logo.
- Send an e-mail to Lisa (webrina AT gmail DOT com) or to me
(simosite AT mac DOT com) and include your name, blog name and blog
address, and a permanent link to your post. Please, include the words "Novel Food" in the email subject, so we can more easily retrieve the message in our inbox.
