This month I would like you to make a soup or salad and add some fruit. Your soup or salad could be a starter, main course or a dessert. I have added dessert as a suggestion because I love fruit salad and a cold fruit soup would be a gorgeous end to a meal, don't you think? The winner will be awarded a gorgeous badge for their blog! Rules can be found here.

NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 20th - NOVEL FOOD #5. The light has changed in my corner of the world, indicating that summer is giving way to fall. In other places, winter is on its way out, and spring is welcomed with joy. The approaching official change of the season is marked, once again, by the announcement of a new edition of Novel Food, the culinary/literary event that Lisa of Champaign Taste and I co-launched a few seasons ago. Once again (for the 5th time, to be precise), we are looking to find culinary inspiration in literary works. If you are new to the event, and you are wondering what it is about, the split roundup of the previous edition should answer your question: Lisa's portion is here and mine is here. I will make this announcement short and just lay out the simple rules for participating in Novel Food #5:
  1. Prepare a dish of your choosing that has a connection to a published literary work (novel, novella, short story, memoir, bio).
  2. Publish a post about it on your blog by Saturday September 20, 2008, 9 am (Pacific Time), referencing the Novel Food event. If you wish, you can include the Novel Food logo.
  3. Send an e-mail to Lisa (webrina AT gmail DOT com) or to me
(simosite AT mac DOT com) and include your name, blog name and blog
address, and a permanent link to your post. Please, include the words "Novel Food" in the email subject, so we can more easily retrieve the message in our inbox.
Non-English submissions are fine. If possible, include an introduction in English. Lisa and I will do a roundup soon afterward the deadline: once again, it will be our way of welcoming the coming season.

NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 22nd - YOU SAY TOMATO, I SAY TOMAHTO. This new event is hosted by The Houndstooth Gourmet and is the perfect way to celebrate juicy ripe summer tomatoes. Want in? Deets are right here.

NOW UNTIL SEPTEMBER 26th - SUGAR HIGH FRIDAY (SHF). This month, the popular event is being hosted by Food Beam, and the topic is one after my own hearts ... cupcakes. Check out all the details here if you'd like to join in the fun.

Hosted by Michelle of Bleeding Espresso, Sara of Ms Adventures in Italy, and Jenn of The Leftover Queen, this event and contest seeks to raise awareness and money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund through recipes for "O Foods," foods that start or end with "O" such as oatmeal, orange, okra, octopus, olive, onion, tomato and potato. I don't remember exactly when The Bunch was formed but I seem to recall thinking that the first press tasting was merely a pretext for a rogue's drinking club. Each of the rogues in question, Simon Loftus of Adnams, Graham Chidgey of Laytons, Adam Brett-Smith of Corney & Barrow and John Armit of Armit and Robin Yapp of Yapp Bros, was in his own way a pioneer of
sorts. Springing from an equal commitment to excellence in wine and contempt for its opposite, the Famous Five got together with the tweedier country wine merchants Tanners and Lay & Wheeler to use The Bunch as a vehicle for promoting individualism and quality.
